Mayor

Gary

Welcome to the City of Shelby website.  Our goal is to make the site easily accessible; complete in information; and give you a picture of all Shelby has to offer.

Shelby is a welcoming community with a very colorful past and even brighter future.  Good people work hard to make Shelby a great place to live, work and raise their families.

Shelby has a strong work ethic.  Business men and women work diligently to strengthen and grow our business community.  City and County government work hand-in-hand to provide good public services and facilities.  Schools provide a good education for all students and churches provide for the spiritual needs of the community.  Most important, residents take pride in their community supporting development of the Carousel Rest Area of Shelby; the Shelby Swimming Pool and Splash Park; Shelby Civic Center, Toole County Museum of Art and History; Roadrunner Recreation Trail; Marias Valley Golf Course; Champions Park and so many other community projects which make our community special.

We hope you find the website helpful and we always welcome your comments and suggestions.

Thank you,

Gary McDermott, Mayor gary@shelbymt.com

Mayors Resume

Gary McDermott is a third generation Montanan, raised in Kevin and educated in Sunburst. He graduated from MSU in Bozeman in 1972 and is a die-hard Bobcat fan. Gary came to Shelby in 1975 and worked for R.E. Svare before opening his own CPA office in 1977.  In 2003, he and his family became involved in the oil and gas business.  Between the CPA office and MCR, LLC, Gary and his family provide full-time employment and benefits to twenty-four people. He is actively involved in the day to day operations for both businesses.

Gary believes that small towns are like churches; they die unless our young people support them. His goal is for Shelby to be the kind of town where young people want to raise their families. Gary and Vivian have three sons who were born and raised in Shelby. They are pleased that all of them presently make their homes in Montana; Mac (Emily) in Shelby, Carl (Ashley) in Whitefish, and (Monique) Shelby.
